First the majority of the funding is secured from the Department of Health through Attend which supports organisations who are making their communities healthier and happier.
Next the hunt is on for the right premises. It needs to be within reach of the more deprived communities in the town. Once the disused shop at 453 London Road, Westcliff had been found, teams of volunteers flood the place with work and life – soon local people are joining in as well. Almost all the work is completed without paying professionals.
Two of the local people joining in with the DIY teams go on to become volunteers when the shop opens to the public. Already, Shared Space is mobilising a local community for good.
