Grace Claydon – Project Worker

Grace was born and raised in Southend. She has lived in Uganda, Tanzania, Norwich and Calais and hopes to continue travelling in the future.

Location: Shared Space, Westcliff
Degrees: International Development
Working Days: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday

I found out about Shared Space after getting involved with Church from Scratch.

    Why did you get involved?

I love the community feel among the volunteers and customers, and it’s been a privilege to get to know people from all different backgrounds and experiences.

What do you do as a Project Worker?

I do lots of little things behind the scenes! I help to organise events for Shared Space volunteers and the community. I keep our social media pages up to date and support Alex & Peter in their roles.

I also facilitate the Life & Soul group that meets here on a Friday lunchtime. We’ve had several volunteers join us over the last few months which has been a real joy.

I love doing the window display when I get the chance!

What are some of the highlights?

I love our Life & Soul group! It always brightens my day and we have some great conversations.

I love seeing our volunteers grow in confidence. And I love getting to know their individual characters, each of them has such a unique story and worldview, and I have learnt so much from them.

    Any hopes for the future?

I am excited to start looking for a third Shared Space shop. It’s exciting to be going into a new community and meeting a new group of people.

I would love to help Shared Space become a more environmentally-friendly shop. I care passionately about the environment and it’s great that we can give all the donations that come to the shop a second chance to be used, rather than going to landfill! But there’s space for us to do even more!

Fill in our short online form and we’ll be in touch to chat about the right volunteering opportunity for you.
