I love seeing people grow in their skills and confidence. This role gives me the opportunity to utilise my leadership background to do just that, surrounded by a team that shares my core faith and values.
Why did you get involved?
I was brought up in Church from Scratch, the fully inclusive church that started Shared Space, so I’ve always believed in its mission and it feels like home to me.
I’m a Christian, and I also believe everyone should be treated equally and feel included. Whether it’s a neighbour or someone who seems on their own, I’ve always wanted people to feel welcome. Shared Space shares those values, and I feel so lucky to use my skills alongside so many amazing people who care about our community and want to make a difference.
What do you do?
As Operations Manager, I oversee the day-to-day running of our shops and support our store managers, staff and volunteers. It’s a varied role, from working through everyday challenges to planning community events and finding ways to improve how we work. A big part of what I do is bringing people together and making sure our teams have the support, confidence and tools they need.
What is a hi-light of your role?
Getting to know the people who make Shared Space what it is. Everyone brings something different, and I love seeing people’s skills recognised and their confidence grow. Those everyday moments of kindness, encouragement and teamwork make the role special.
Any hopes for the future for Shared Space?
I’d love to see Shared Space continue to grow as a place where people feel welcome, valued and connected. I’m looking forward to helping strengthen our teams and develop more opportunities for volunteering, learning and community activities, while keeping our values at the centre of everything we do.
