A Boost Fund Grant from Shared Space will fund the purchase of water butts and downpipes for a group of volunteers who are transforming Southchurch Hall Gardens.
They wrote this thank you letter to Shared Space…

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Shared Space for awarding Southchurch Park Inspiration Parkers (S.H.I.P.)  this month’s Boost Fund Grant.

S.H.I.P.  came together just over five months ago.  With the beautiful Grade 1 Listed Building ond Gardens (which are a National Monument) falling into disrepair and being frequented by drug dealers, prostitutes and drunks making it a local ‘no go’ area, we knew we had to take matters into our own hands.

We are all local residents who care so much about this important park that we meet for two hours every other Saturday to litter pick (we collected eight very full sacks of rubbish on our first effort). Our motto is ‘the more we pick up, the less they’ll drop down’.   We have more than halved the amount of litter collected fortnightly now and we notice that more people are using the bins – what a great start.

As there is less litter picking we are able to spend some time on tending the flower beds which have been left for too long and are overgrown.

The aim is to bring the park back to local families and visitors.  We have engaged, and have the support of the local police and council.

Kind regards,
Shelly Honeyball
on behalf of S.H.I.P.
