One of the latest round of Boost Fund Grants has been awarded to the Southend Churches’ Winter Night Shelter. A large hamper of toiletries was taken down to Belle Vue Baptist Church to help with this vital work along with money to fund the running costs.
With temperatures plummeting, peoples’ lives are at risk. It is good that Shared Space can provide help and at the same time it is deeply troubling that churches need to provide this service in the 21st century. In recent years a lack of government funding has contributed to increasing numbers of marginalised people forced on to the streets of Southend.
Each night a church provides a hot meal, friendship, and a safe place to sleep. The Church Winter Night Shelter provides many beds each night for local homeless people at seven different churches across Southend. And more is needed.
The churches first worked together to provide this needed service in 2011 as a Christian response to the growing number of rough sleepers on Southend’s streets.
Keep bringing your donations in to our charity shops and we will keep on helping Southend.,
